Hi, my name is Albert, and welcome to my website. I am making a Hydro Rocket. Here are some websites on rockets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pagrosse/h2oRocketsi.htm We start by getting 2 similar plastic bottles. Next you make a parachute. You can make a parachute by folding a plastic bag and cut it. Then you make the wings and tape them to your bottle. After that, cut the other bottle to make the fuselage. Later, attach the parachute and put the to on. Last but not least, you make the fuel. It is just compressed water. Here are movies of water rockets.
During hydro rockets we did lots of experiments, we made a mini rocket using a alka sektzer dumped in water inside a empty film canister. Mine went the highest.
Here are the results from the rocket launch Theoren:114ft Gianina:80ft Albert, Alan, Shin: 32ft Satoshi:28.8 Dercen:27.2 Mathew:21.6 Here is a game you can play:
1st dibaiby ribesibults: Tibodibay wibasn't ribeibally whibat I expibectibed... (From now on it's not Zoomish.)All we did today was make balloon things and see who can make their balloon thing touch the black board. But, over all, it was fun.
2nd day result Today was WAY better than the last day! We made parachutes for our rockets recovery system. I based mine on Super Smash Bros., of course!
3rd day results This day we talked about a few things and watched this weird video. We also went swimming! Swimming was fun, but I think I feel a little sick now...
4th day results Today... was... AWSOME!! We finally got to work on the rocket its self! Today we made the fins for the rocket and stuck them on. We also worked a little on the rocket body.(Fuselage, e.t.c)I wonder what we might work on tomorrow.
We had a balloon experiment and we thought it will be easy but it was really hard!!!
We competed with our classmates for how far the balloon will fly with no helium and it wasn't
such a success. We watched a video about how things fly and the difference about gliding and jets. We had more experiments instead of just making rockets. We had a experiment like, putting a balloon on a straw and making it go. We also had a experiment where we got alka seltzer and water and put it inside a film case to make it fly. The other experiment was when we got rubbing alcohol and put a cork on the bottle so the air won't escape and we got a bicycle pump and pumped it ten times and it made a cloud like thing.
Rocket making
We made rockets with parts like the tail or the wings and the body and we even added a parachute system in the rocket. We put on a cone to stop the drag effecting the speed of the rocket and when the rocket meets apogee the cone will help the parachute to come out. We also have to calculate how much water we would put in the rocket using a site called: http://extension.osu.edu/~rockets/demorocket.html Then after that we whet for the launch! It was really cool! These are the results: Shin 32 ft Mathew 21.6 ft Gianina 80 ft Dercen 27.2 ft Alan 32 ft Satoshi 28.8 ft Albert 32 ft Theoren 35 ft
We gathered up and our teacher told us to gather together and find a partner and me and Dercen grouped up. Mrs.Nelson our teacher asked us a question "how does a balloon go side ways"? she said and so then we got to work. Me and Dercen took balloons, scissors, straws and a strings from the work shelf counter. We got some ideas from Shin and Satoshi's project then we made a three balloon but it failed...
Day two
Today we made parachutes for our rockets and it was fun! I drew a vampires face on the parachute. I felt evil but I did not know why.
Day three
Our teacher brought rubbing alcohol to class and a soft drink bottle and put the alcohol in the bottle and put on a cork on top with a hole in the middle for the air from the pump. Then Ms.Nelson asked a volunteer to pump the pump ten times and the volunter was me. So then I pumped it ten times then POOF!! LOTS of clouds came out of the bottle and that was cool.
We learned about jet turbines and here is a video from you tube. Today was launch day and I was excited and I never knew that my parachute came out. I was very happy.
We got partners for making a rocket with: Balloons, paper, paper-clip, string, a small tube. The objective of this experiment was to use these materials to make a rocket, that can go really far. We didn't get our balloon rocket off the string to fly off
We discussed about the reasons of the first failure and tried again, this time it got farther but still didn't get off the string.
We had a rubbing alcohol in a clean bottle, and had a cork stuffed on the bottle so air couldn't escape. Then we pumped it 10 times and pulled the cork out. The rubbing alcohol turned into a cloud like thing. We pumped 3-5 more times, and the cloud thing was gone
We added blue pigment ink inside the bottle with the rubbing alcohol. Then we pumped it 10 times and pulled the cork out. The rubbing alcohol turned into a cloud like thing, but somehow the blue ink didn't. We discussed about the reason, and we thought that it was because the ink is too heavy. After that we pumped 3-5 pumps, and the cloud like thingy was gone.
We got a film case, then put any amount of water you like, and we put Alka seltzer in it , then you run away really fast. The mini rocket will then have a small blow and fly in the air about 1 meter.
We launched our rocket today:
Matthew:21.6ft
Gianina:80ft
Albert:21.6ft
Shin:32ft
Satoshi:28.8ft
Alan:32ft
Dercen:27.2
Ms.Nelson:114.4ft
My rocket blew off without pumping enough, it just blew off without pulling the long string, so it went really low. I think it was because I pumped it too fast. When I did my 2ND launch I pumped it slowly, and pulled the long string. It blew off a lot higher than the 1ST launch, and the parachute even came out this time. But unfortunately my rocket flew out of the fence so I couldn't get it back.
The 1st day's results We got partners for making a rocket with: Balloons, paper, paper-clip, string, a small tube. The objective of this experiment was to use these materials to make a rocket, that can go really far.
Many balloons got blown up, so it was fun!! We got to make rockets twice, and the second time was more successful, because we discussed about the different things we could do after the first try. We thought out of the box to make the rockets go father with our materials.

On July 3rd, we will have to launch our rockets, and our rockets must have a parachute system so it doesn't break when it starts descending.
2ND Day of Hydro Rocket's results We started making the parachute for our rockets, there was 3 different ways to make our parachutes:
We use a garbage bag and cut it into a circle diameter 18inches, then we fold it into 8Th's. We put one tape on every 8Th, so there would be 8 tapes on 8 8Th's. Punch a hole with the hole puncher on every piece of tape.
This parachute needs to be folded into 8 pieces with the garbage bag, and with the 2 method you will get 2 parachutes, every parachute has 8 lines. Then we put one tape on every 8Th, so there would be 8 tapes on 8 8Th's. So, if there is 2 parachutes then in total there should be 16 tapes. Punch a hole with the hole puncher on every piece of tape.
3rd Day of Hydro Rocket's results
We got to finish our parachutes and test it. All of the parachutes that are finished now are great, it is fun watching the parachutes fall down slowly. We watched a funny video showing what a lift is, and shows how you can start off a lift. We also did a experiment, by putting rubbing alcohol (rubbing alcohol can kill you if you drink it) in a bottle that is CLEAN. We then stuffed a cork on the bottle so the air cant come out, then pump it 10 times, and pull out the cork. The rubbing alcohol will turn into something like a cloud with a sound of a puff.
4Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
We started making the wings for our rockets, and we discussed about the advantages and disadvantages of the wings. Then we chose the wings that was best for us, I chose to have only 3 wings on my wings. Many people had 4 wings on their rocket. Ms. Nelson taught us a method with string and straight edges to put the wings on the rockets, so that they would be balanced and would fly off straight. This is a website that you can learn more about hydro rockets: http://ordinarypeterhr.blogspot.com/
5Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
I got to finish the wings, and stuck it on the rocket. Then we started the fuselage, which carries the parachute inside. On top of the fuselage will be where the cone is, the cone can cut through the air so that it would fly faster, the cone can also pull the parachute out when it is descending, because the parachute isn't heavy enough for gravity to pull it out. Now i only need to make sure the cone sticks to the parachute so that it would pull out, and fall down safely instead of falling down in great speed.
6Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
Today I ALMOST finished my brilliant rocket, I used the elastic to tie the 8 strings, the top cone, and the bottle together. So if the top cone falls off then the parachute will come out also, and when the parachute falls out, the rocket won't fall down to the floor, and break into many different pieces so you won't get it back again. This is a video of someone else pumping a huge water rocket!
It was so cool!! 7Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
Today I finished my brilliant rocket, but the knot got loose and the strings fell out! So now i need to tie a knot again, and I'll be finished again. We watched a movie about force and work, and they said that if you have a mechanical advantage to do your work to carry really heavy stuff, instead of carrying it yourself with your own hands. Even if the other person has more sweat and is more tired, might be doing less or equal work than the person with the mechanical advantage, who isn't tired and sweating a little bit.
8Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
Today we watched a movie about air pressure, and how it can suck and also pump something out. The video was a weird video again. After the video we went on this website where you can choose the: cone style, nose weights, body weight, tail weight, water oz, and pressure PSI, it was pretty fun, the highest our class got up to was 664. If you also want to try this website and beat our high score then go to http://extension.osu.edu/~rockets/demorocket.html. We finished our rockets up, because Thursday ( 2 days later) will be the launch day!!!!!
9Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
We made a really small rocket today as a experiment, then we put in the amount of water in the body (film case)that you like, and we put Alka seltzer in it really fast, then you run away really fast. The mini rocket will then have a small blow and fly in the air about 1 meter.
10Th Day of Hydro Rocket's results
Today was launch Day my rocket blasted off to the sky, it was really fun. I found out that if you pump too fast, then the rocket would blast off by itself without any notice. So i pumped it slowly and it much much higher and the parachute system worked also!
Instead of using fuel, you will use a straw, balloon, long piece of string (at least 3 meter long) and tape.
First you inflate the balloon and hold the balloon with a paper clip. Next you tape the straw to the inflated balloon. You toss the rope through the straw and tie or tape both ends of the rope somewhere. Now let go of the paper clip and the balloon will streak through the place where you attached the rope. When you are finished, you end like this. Please go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Upm9XIkvj6o http://www.uswaterrockets.com/
Experiment two
what you'll need:drying alcohol, 1 liter bottle ( clear plastic), bicycle pump, drill and a cork big enough to fit on the cap of the plastic bottle. First you need to put the drying alcohol about a centimeter into the plastic bottle. Then you drill a hole into the cork and stick the cork into the plastic bottle. Stick the pipe of the bicycle pump into the hole of the cork and start pumping till you pump 10 times. Let go of the cork quickly and watch what happens.
Results: A white cloud will form
Here's a cool rocket to watch
Here's our results from the hydro rocket
Matthew: 21.6 ft Dercen: 27.2 ft Satoshi: 38.8 ft Shin: 32 ft Gianina: 80 ft Alan: 32 ft Albert: 32 ft
Well that was the results! I can't believe Gianina's went at least 80 ft! It seemed impossible!?
